Challenge

The checkout City field accepts any text. With cash on delivery, a misspelled city is paid for three times: the sale is lost, the outbound shipping is paid anyway, and so is the return. Today it gets fixed by checking order by order or messaging each buyer on WhatsApp.

Solution

A Cart and Checkout Validation Function runs on Shopify servers and checks the city against the 1,122 DIVIPOLA municipalities. It accepts names the way people write them (Cali, Bogotá, El Bordo), suggests the right one on a typo, and would rather stay silent than guess: a wrong suggestion sends the parcel somewhere else.
